Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery & Cultural Center Opening Events

 

The Siskiyou Arts Council is very excited to announce the opening of our new Gallery & Cultural Center located at 418-A North Mt. Shasta Blvd. Siskiyou Arts Council is now able to provide more service for the arts in Siskiyou County.

 

CALL TO ARTISTS…

 

SAC is inviting members to participate in future exhibits at the new Gallery and Cultural Center in Mt. Shasta with finished, framed and ready to hang artwork, sculpted work (including fiber arts), and examples of the written word. Dancers and musicians can provide high quality photos. We want all of the arts represented.

 

You must be a current SAC member to enter your work. For more information on upcoming shows, contact Lauri Sturdivant 938-0130 or the Gallery at 926-1294.

 

If you have a demonstration or some time to volunteer please call! We want you all to have fun and be part of the fun we are creating in the arts.

 

Please pass this around so everyone has the chance to participate. 


Grants and Gifts for the Arts

 

The Siskiyou Arts Council has started a Grants and Gifts program that will provide financial assistance to individuals and enable them to meet their goals in the Arts.

 

Grants will be awarded (in the $50-$100 range)to individuals that have requested assistance, have demonstrated a need, and have been approved by the Grants & Gifts Committee. The "Grants" piece of this program is self nominating and is intended to assist artists in supplementing the costs for the incidentals that would otherwise not be affordable. For Example, incidentals such as materials, tuition, transportation, and support services.

 

Gifts will be awarded ($1000) by the Grants & Gifts Committee to individuals who have been nominated to have demonstrated heart and vitality in Siskiyou County and have fostered a spirit of creativity and prosperity through excellence in the arts. The “Gifts” piece of this program is to honor and award artists that have excelled at their art. The nominees will be evaluated and awards will be given twice a year.

Reason for Grant or Gift, if Gift, provide the person's name you are nominating and a description of his/her achievement.

 

All requests for Grants need to be sent by the 20th of each month in order to be reviewed by the committee and if approved, awarded by the first of the following month. Nominations for Achievement Gifts need to be made in November and May for awards to be evaluated, approved and awarded in January and June.

HawkMan Studios, an arts organization in Shasta County seeks N. State artists for it popular "2nd Saturday Art Hop" event in Redding.

 

2nd Saturday Art Hop is a monthly event. Each month, local businesses host the work of local artists and every 2nd Saturday, host a reception for that artist from 6 to 9 PM. A list of the host businesses is printed in each month in Enjoy Magazine so that the community can "hop" from business to business, meet the artist, enjoy great food and listen to live music. Each month, each business hosts a different regional artist.

AARP 2010 Calendar Contest

 

Theme: "There's Nowhere I'd rather Be" The AARP Foundation invites its members to enter the 2010 calendar contest. 14 paintings will be selected and exhibited at AARP's life@50+ National event and Expo in Las Vegas, Oct. 22 to 24 2009. 

IMPORTANT: Contestants must be amateurs, paintings must be original. Pastels, oils, acrylics and watercolors are eligible. Entry Form at www.aarp.org/foundation or call 1-888-687-2277

The Siskiyou Arts Council is often asked, "Is there a list of people who can teach classes?" To than end, we are building a database of teachers for the arts. To participate, please print and mail in the Teaching Registry (a pdf application - requires the free Acrobat Reader application to open) or phone 938-0130 and leave your mailing information so we can send this form to you.

A Room of Her Own Foundation Literary Gift of Freedom Award Application

 

A Room Of Her Own Foundation (AROHO) is dedicated to helping women artists achieve the privacy and financial support necessary to pursue their art. As Virginia Woolf recognized in the 1920s, “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write.”

The Arts and Accessibility Technical Assistance Program

 

The California Arts Council in collaboration with the National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA announces the availability of $500 grants for arts organizations or artists with disabilities. Funds may be used towards the professional development of artists and to enhance the participation of people with disabilities in the arts. Creating Public Value Program

 

The California Arts Council (CAC) has opened the application process for its Creating Public Value (CPV) grant program. Through this program, the CAC seeks to partner with California arts organizations in rural or underserved areas to implement projects that make a positive contribution to communities utilizing tools identified as “The Three R’s”: Relationships (building partnerships), Relevance (to audiences and community), and Return on Investment (making the case to the authorizing environment). Artists in Schools Program

 

The CAC has opened the application process for its Artists in Schools (AIS) grant program. AIS intends to integrate community arts resources—artists and professional art organizations—into a comprehensive, standards-based program that underscores the critical role that the arts play in shaping a student’s overall well-being and academic achievement. New Work-Performing Arts

 

The Multi-Arts Production (MAP) Fund, a program of Creative Capital supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, provides funding to nonprofit performing and presenting organizations that are undertaking the commissioning, development, or production of new work in the live performing arts. MAP especially seeks to support work that brings insight and vibrant critique to the issue of cultural difference, be that in class, gender, generation, ethnicity, or tradition. More Grant Opportunities

 

Siskiyou County artists, writers and performers are invited to contact the Siskiyou Arts Council for information about applying for grants. Funding support for the arts is offered by a wide variety of organizations, from private foundations to state and national agencies. Grants often provide money for specific projects or programs, but can also include general support for an individual artist and their work. The Siskiyou Arts Council keeps track of likely grant possibilities and provides information and support to artists and arts groups who choose to extend the effort needed to apply for grants.

Literary Program funding opportunity for Siskiyou County.

 

Poets & Writers administers the Readings/Workshops program, which provides matching fees to writers who give public readings of their work or teach writing workshops. One of the program goals is to reach underserved populations and/or rural areas where literary programming is often scarce.

 

Poets & Writers have chosen three counties to focus on during this new fiscal year, which began July 1 2008. The counties are Siskiyou, Del Norte and Placer counties. “The goal is to help jump-start more events in these counties via outreach and education about funds available through the Readings/Workshops program. “

The Investing in Artists grant program is designed to enhance the working lives and creative environment for California artists in all disciplines by funding tools and market strategies that will allow them to create their best work more consistently, and distribute that work more broadly to new audiences. To support those aims, Investing in Artists provides grants in two categories: 1) Artistic Equipment & Tools; and 2) Artistic Innovation. 

 

As of 2009, CCI will also be hosting a series of informational webinars on the Investing in Artists program, free of charge.

 Google Offering Free Adwords Advertising In-Kind Grants from the CAM eNewsletter

 

Google is offering free Adwords Advertising in-kind grants. Google grants support organizations demonstrating a philosophy of community service to help the world in areas such as science and technology, education, global public health, the environment, youth advocacy, and the arts. Grant recipients can use their award of free AdWords advertising on Google.com to raise awareness and increase traffic to their respective site. There is no deadline to apply. Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Arts Program Announces National Projects Fund from the UCIRA listserve

 

As part of a new initiative to help strengthen the national performing arts sector, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Arts Program will support select national projects that strengthen the health of the dance, jazz, presenting, and/or theater fields.

 

During a two-year pilot phase, the National Projects Fund will award a total of up to $1 million in grants to support key national projects in the dance, jazz, presenting, and/or theater fields. Grants will range from $60,000 to $200,000 each, and cannot exceed 40 percent of a project’s total cost. National projects engage a broad national constituency, occur once (or periodically) rather than annually, and have the potential to significantly impact a field. Types of projects eligible for support include national research, national public awareness activities, cross-discipline collaborations (including national meetings or conventions), and other national activities.

The Siskiyou Arts Council is seeking Board Members

 

We have “working board” of Directors who are volunteers, serving a two year term with a time commitment of about 10 hours per month.

NCAP Arts Programs

 

The mission of the Northeast California Arts Project is to strengthen teachers' personal and professional knowledge in the arts and to enhance the instructional strategies they use in teaching standards-based dance, theatre, music, and visual arts to California's students, kindergarten through postsecondary.
