The Siskiyou Arts Council invites you to visit our Gallery & Cultural Center located at 418 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. Siskiyou Arts Council is now able to provide more service for the arts in Siskiyou County. Please stop by the Gallery to see the current art show. You'll also discover more about SAC’s 37 years history in Siskiyou County featuring current projects like, H2O Manifesto Marble Rim Gallery, Art Matters, the ArtsBus Project, Mt. Shasta Writers Series, Gifts and Grants, Etna Bluegrass Festival, Poetry Out Loud and more.

Shasta Wildlife Rescue holds it's 3rd Annual Art On The Wildside fundraiser on November 6, 2010, and seeks artists to rent booth space.  Deadline for registration is October 31, but space is limited and first-come, first-served. Southern Oregon University is seeking Art Inspired by Science to show in conjunction with the 91st annual meeting of the Pacific Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, June 17 thru 20, 2010.  Artists working in any media with artwork based on your interests or research in the sciences may send a short description (size, media, etc.), a brief explanation of its use of or reference to science (150 words) and a jpeg (2MB limit) or CD/DVD to all three of us:  Michael Crane, cranem@sou.edu; Robert Louis Chianese, robert.chianese@csun.edu; and John Hafernik, hafernik@sfsu.edu by January 1.

The Mythical State of Jefferson is the subject of a show and performances being offered by Southern Oregon University's Schneider Museum of Art.  Creative individuals and groups working in any media who are willing to join in exploring the ideas, politics, history and/or the appearance of The Mythical State of Jefferson may submit their work.  Contact Michael Crane, the Schneider director and curator of this project, by phone at 541.552.8484, or send an email to cranem@sou.edu.  Visit the Schneider Museum of Art at www.sou.edu/sma.

Ongoing Artists Opportunity

  

The Shasta View Nursing Center in Weed would like to invite local artists to share their art.  Dancers, musicians, story tellers, actors, and painters with art to display are encouraged to share their art with this thriving community. The public is invited to view "Markings", the work of Weed resident and College of the Siskiyous photography student, Stacey Davasher, at the Learning Resources Center Art Gallery.  The show features a series of new black and white silver photographs from various locations in Siskiyou County.  Gallery hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday.  An artist's reception will be held Thursday, November 19, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.  For more information, contact James Gilmore at gilmore@siskiyous.edu or call the college at 888.397.4339.


November 18 thru December 23 - Mt. Shasta

 

The Bra Project, showing at the SAC Gallery & Cultural Center on November 18,  is a series of embellished bras with a statement, made by the C.O.S. Embroidery/Fiber Arts class to raise money for cancer research. With titles from "I've Got Hives" to "Chose Life", it covers a range of subjects. The object is to have people vote with their money for their favorites, putting their money in an envelope, writing the number of the Bra on the outside and putting it into the box.  (We will provide a box and envelopes and pencils). The Bras will be auctioned off at Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery & Cultural Center December 23 at 6:00 p.m.  Support local artists and cancer research by viewing and voting! The response Shasta County Arts Council's King Tut bus trip was so overwhelmingly large that they have scheduled another trip Tuesday, March 2, 2010.  Get on the list for their last bus to deYoung and see King Tut before he heads back to Egypt. December 2 - Mt. Shasta

 

The SAC Gallery & Cultural Center will be participating in HOLIDAY MAGIC:  Mount Shasta's Shop, Walk & Dine event, the first four Wednesdays during the month of December, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Carolers and special sales will abound throughout town. This Wednesday is "Free Gift with non-perishable food donation" day.  This is a wonderful chance to finish holiday shopping and enjoy the lovely town of Mt. Paula Reynolds, on vocals and guitar, and Gerry Smida, on piano, guitar, accordion and too many other instruments to name, will perform "CHICK MUSIC", a variety of jazz standards and songs of contemporary female artists at the Sengthong's Blue Sky Room at 7:30 p.m.   A food drive will benefit local families, please bring non-perishables.

December 5 - Gazelle

 

A Holiday Tasting Event & Boutique at the Porcupine Gulch Ranch presented by Fairchild Medical Center-Scott Valley Guild, Saturday, December 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The Event includes Decadent Tasting of chocolate and truffles, wine, cheese, coffee, tea, beer and other tasty goodies.  Come enjoy live entertainment by the Vagaries, and Model A cars from the Model A Club of Siskiyou County (weather permitting).  Antiques from Heritage House will be displayed for sale, along with artisitic hand-crafted and unique boutique and food items--perfect for holiday gifts.  There will be fabulous raffles and exciting door prizes.  Event participants to date include Alpen Wine Cellars, Shasta View Winery, Etna Brewery, Village Grind, My Favorite Things, and Heritage House Antiques.  This is a cozy indoor holiday event at Porcupine Gulch Ranch, located off I-5.  Take Louie Road east and travel 2 1/4 miles to the gorgeous ranch house.

The COS Orchestra will hold their annual Fall Concert on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 3:00 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and on Monday, Dec. 7, at 7:00 p.m., at the Yreka Seventh Day Adventist Church, 346 Payne Lane.  Such selections as King Stephan Overture by L. van Beethoven and Rondo for Violin and Orchestra by W. Siskiyou Arts Council is hosting an informational meeting about The National League of Pen Women Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Gallery & Cultural Center at 418 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd.  American Pen Women are professional writers, composers, choreographers, arrangers and artists who believe in the power of words, art and music to illuminate the human experience, fire the imagination, and nourish the soul. Tuesday, January 27 is the date of the local Poetry Outloud finals!  Featuring participants from high schools across the county, these will take place from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Ford Theater at Weed's COS campus.
